WEDDING PREP PHOTOGRAPHY

Your Wedding preparation and getting ready for your wedding ceremony are always lovely moments to capture, whether it’s your best mates straightening your tie downing whiskey, or sipping champagne with your mum helping you slip into your wedding dress, regardless of your fix, the preparation for your wedding day offers time for natural moments of your wedding day and makes some great photos.

I’ve seen more recently a trend for first touch / first look weddings, which is a less traditional way to connect with each other privately for the first time on your wedding day, but it’s not for everyone, so I haven’t included it below.

Just like most wedding photographers, alongside capturing the bridal and groom prep I make use of the preparation time to get photos of all of your details too. It could be your outfits, the rings, the flowers, and anything else we think you wouldn’t want us to miss.

the devil is in the detail

Wedding Stationary

I always ask my couples to have a copy of every piece of wedding stationery they have sent out to their guests, ready for photos at their wedding prep. This includes Save the Dates, Invites, and RSVPs, during the planning of your wedding, lots of effort has been put into these small pieces of paper, and they are just as big a part of your day as the flowers or the rings.

When designing these items, it’s good to keep in mind the colour scheme you have chosen, so they look really nice in photos alongside the flowers, suits, dresses, at all the other gazillion bits and pieces you’ve bought for your wedding.

Wedding Flowers

Your wedding floristry is unique in the fact that your wedding flower choice is often dependent on the season of your wedding, despite this, florists will often still be able to source beautiful flowers in your colour scheme.

I find that the best time to get the photos of the flowers is right after delivery on the morning of your wedding. They are fresh, crisp and, often have little tiny dew drops which just add to the complex details, and well to be honest they get bashed throughout the day, and we want you to remember them at their best!

Whilst you will get photos of your bouquets on their own I will usually incorporate them into other wedding prep details.

Wedding rings

Exchanging rings at weddings has been a tradition for thousands of years. Whilst it is not a legal requirement, for most couples, rings are still very much a common part of their wedding day, and whether you keep them traditional with endless gold bands, or you do something a bit different; images of the rings will likely make a feature in your wedding photos.

For example, Wayne and Tim had turned wooden rings, inlaid with dried flowers which represented how much Wayne enjoyed gardening. My wedding ring in fact has crished up stones from where I proposed to my wife. I love the little details that tell stories, and wedding rings are just that.

Pre Wedding Portraits

You and your partner have put a lot of effort into planning the outfits for you and the wedding party. Your wedding day is eventful and quite long, and so I try to get portraits and other photos of your wedding party in the morning when everyone is looking their best and hopefully not too stressed about if they have forgotten the rings, or the notes to their speech.
